Invitation to South Pole

SouthPole EateryThis quarter of the year has been a busy one, for us at the Chamber. Although there have been some big shuffles and changes, the end result is new premises, new goals and energized direction of what we as a Chamber wish to offer our members.
We have moved into our brand new office and will be having an opening celebration soon. This will double up as a social business networking meet where we can catch up by mingling and exchanging business cards.

However, in the interim, we are in inviting you to join us at South Pole (Details Below)
We have specifically researched what is needed at this point in time, thus, due to the current economic conditions we are hosting a dynamic expert on the topic together with Grant Thornton:

Where: Southpole Restaurant & Lounge at Ocean Square, Sunset Beach, Cape Town
When: 4th November 2008.
Time: 5pm – 7pm.

I have been asked to continue on the above topic recently covered in my August 08 Newsletter. I will not be able to cover the entire matter in one newsletter, so I will deal with it over the next couple of issues, and will try my best not to complicate the issue and to be as brief as possible

The Code of Good Practice for Dismissal (Schedule 8, LRA 66 of 1995) states that employers and employees should treat each other with mutual respect. By this it is meant that while employees should be protected from arbitrary and unfair action from their employers, employers are also entitled to both satisfactory conduct and work performance from their employees. The importance of this value is that the absence of this respect will render the interpersonal relationship between the employee and employer intolerable; With regard to the issue of satisfactory conduct what is meant is that employees need to behave in a certain manner when they are in an employment relationship. That is if they are not behaving in the appropriate manner employers have the choice of entering into disciplinary procedures to discipline their employees. One important element of discipline is that the charge labelled against the employee in question is the correct one.
