Cape TownThe UK’s Daily and Sun Telegraph newspapers have released the results of their annual reader travel survey and Cape Town has emerged as their readers’ Favourite World City. Cape Town pipped San Francisco, Sydney and Vancouver for best city, whilst South Africa was in the top four for best destination on earth.

The survey also revealed some refreshing news about their UK readers’ attitudes to travel. Of the 25 000 readers polled, 92% were adamant that the credit crunch would have no effect on their choice of destination, whilst 96% said they refused to downgrade their accommodation this holiday.

Reader choices indicate an overall preference for destinations where the pound had strength against the destination currency. 50% of the readers spent more than £ 1000 on their last holiday, with one in six spending £ 2500 -  £ 5000 and one in twenty spending over   £ 5 000.
